Position Summary
This position supports the OhioHealth strategic imperative of growth by managing internal and external communication activities for the OhioHealth system. The manager is accountable for developing communications plans that align and fulfill OhioHealth’s mission, vision, values and strategic priorities.
The communications manager develops and executes strategic internal and external communication plans that educate, motivate and engage key audiences as needed. The manager collaborates with peers in the Marketing & Communications division to create integrated strategic marketing communications plans with measures and ensures involvement and collaboration with team members. The manager serves as the liaison with various system, care site and corporate leaders. S/he participates as an active member of integrated teams throughout the organization and other matrixed teams within the department.
Proven success in developing and implementing effective strategic communications plans in a complex organization is essential. Ability to establish and maintain relationships, develop a cohesive team and create synergies to achieve results is critical to success. A strong professional presence, results-oriented self-starter is required. This position requires a leader who is known for integrity, flexibility and energy.
This position effectively manages resources including teams/people, projects, budgets and timelines and resources. The manager is responsible to maintain expertise in healthcare marketing communications, staying abreast of issues, trends and competitors’ strategies, and introduce best practice communication strategies to OhioHealth.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Credentials, Licenses:
Bachelors degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or related field
Specialized Knowledge:
Ability to influence leaders on communication issues and comfortable and confident constructively coaching senior executives.
Strong leadership abilities as both a formal and informal team leader.
Experience with multi-level, matrix reporting work environments.
Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in creating and implementing strategic integrated communications plans, with a track record of successful results in a service industry, ideally healthcare, with internal and external audiences.
Effective and innovative communications experience and skills with a strong aptitude for communications strategy.
Superior writing, editing and proofreading skills.
Ability to communicate thoughts clearly and simply is essential.
Superb oral communication, interviewing, researching and presentation skills.
Innovative in collaboration and problem-solving with other departments and at all management levels.
Ability to solve problems and lead a team to achieve results.
Ability and willingness to work under pressure; meet strict timelines and budgets, and to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Web based communications (intranets), online publication and social media experience.
Kind and Length of Experience:
7 - 10+ yrs in communications, executive/physician communications, public relations preferably for a multi-hospital, healthcare system.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Credentials, Licenses:
Degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or Business Administration
